After studying engineering and art for my leaving certificate I decided to go on to study modelmaking and animatronic's in college because it allowed me to incorporate my two strongest subjects into one. To develop my 3D skills I spent a year gaining a certificate in sculpture which then led on to a three year diploma in modelmaking. In this three year course I focused mainly on animatronics and spent alot of my time learning workshop skills such as lathe and milling machine work.

As the course itself had little focus teaching the area of animatronics, I thought myself the mechanisms and associated practical skills. After a number of projects I found my practical work became very fast, often completing the pieces well ahead of schedule leaving me free to work on props and sfx for numerous student films bring produced within the college. In doing these personal projects for the student films I gained allot of experience working to deadlines and the teamwork between the designers, producers and myself.

Close to the end of my coarse I did two weeks work experience with Shadow Creations, a modelmaking workshop based in Dublin. While there I worked on the reproduction of stunt and hero weapons for the recent film King Arthur, when my two weeks experience was finished I was asked to stay on full time for a number of months, finishing any remaining work on King Arthur and creating a number of sets for RTE.

When I finished college Vico Films commissioned me to do a number of pieces for low budget films they were producing around the country, often working with a small budget and my garden shed as my workshop. Many of these films are still in post-production. One of the finished films named "The Carpenter And His Clumsy Wife" has done very well worldwide in the short film festivals It has picking up numerous awards such as Best Comedy at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival, and second place in the Corto Cortissimo category at the Venice Film Festival.
